It  is a type of salmon from Copper River, Alaska, that is famous for its taste and quality.

2/ Why is it called “The Wagyu of seafood”?

The title “Wagyu of Seafood” or “The King of King Salmon” is given to Copper River Salmon, specifically the Copper River King Salmon.

These salmon carry the highest amount of omega – 3 fatty acids compared to the others. This comes from their biological need to store extra fat for energy to return home to their spawning grounds up the Copper River. The river increases of 3,600 feet, causing it to be the most difficult salmon migratory terrain in the world. Because of this frigid  journey, the salmon must store extra fat and omega – 3s in their bodies, giving it a buttery texture and robust flavor. As a result of this difficult task, Copper River Salmon are extremely rich in omega – 3 fatty acids.

When is Copper River Salmon season? 

Like waiting for sunshine or a rainbow after a long rain, anglers always look forward to the start of the Copper River Salmon season.

The salmon  have to return home to breed every year, whey they reach maturity. Normally, Salmon are sensitive to water temperature but the extra fat the Copper River Salmon carry, they are able to travel colder waters sooner than the others. So Copper River Salmon kicks off the wild Alaskan salmon season each spring. 

To avoid overfishing, there are only certain times  that are open for fishing.


The Copper River fish a long season that begins in May and extends all the way through September for its renowned wild King, Sockeye, Coho salmon  and these fish harvested from the pure and pristine waters of Alaska’s Copper River.  

Regulations

Copper River has high standard when it comes to sustainable fishing efforts. The fishermen must follow heavily strict rules to ensure the healthy population of  Alaskan salmon in the future. Fishing nets are only allowed to be less than 900 feet in length. The net must always be free, and do not be tied down in a fixed position. The netting is required to be colored.
